A Family Friendly Backyard with Lowe’s Canada

Lowe's Canada came to me a couple of weeks ago to see if I was up for the challenge to create a family friendly backyard.  To say that I was excited would be a bit of an understatement.  You see we live in a new build, with a huge lawn and at the moment we have 2 Adirondack chairs, a veggie garden and a BBQ.  (and hope to get a fence this year)  I wouldn't exactly call it family friendly.  With two toddlers I know that we need to do more so that we can all enjoy the backyard this summer.

We headed over to our local Lowe's and the family friendly theme was also present in store.  I love when stores make it easier for families to shop.  The kids were thrilled to sit in this car cart and we were able to get our shop on!

I know, I know.  I promised family friendly.  But check out these two loungers.  What a lovely summer it would be, laying in my backyard while people bring me cocktails just enjoying the sunshine.  I always said that when we got a house I wanted a hammock to relax on.   Maybe in a few years!  😉

First things first, picking a theme.  Lowe's has so many different colours and patterns to choose from.  We have a chaise lounge that we are going to clean up and it will look brand new with a brand new cushion.  Then we can choose some throw pillows, seat pads and an umbrella to bring all the pieces together.

So Many Colours

So the thoughts are , do we create an area that the family can sit together and relax while we are outside?  It is kind of like a family room but for the outdoors.  I was really impressed with the outdoor carpets.  Really making it look like a room, just an extension of your home.

Or a table and chair set so that we can eat together as a family and enjoy the BBQ.  Last summer Shaun would cook the food outside and then we would bring it in.  Definitely not enjoying the space that we have.

BBQ Time

Lastly I am looking at getting the kids more involved in the garden.  It was so exciting for the kids to see vegetables growing in our garden, and then seeing that we are able to pick them ourselves and go on to eat them.  Lowe's has kids size garden tools and lots of different seeds and plants available to help get us started.

So now it's decision time!

We will be heading back to Lowe's next week to make our purchases and get started!  Now all we need is the weather to start cooperating!  When thinking family friendly backyard what comes to your mind?  We would love to hear your input.

A family friendly backyard has a huge play structure for the kids to play in with a sandbox. I also agree about the vegetable garden. It’s important to get the kids involved with learning where and how their food gets to the table.
