The Top 3 Reasons You Need a Dehumidifier in your Home
Before we became home owners a dehumidifier was definitely not a small appliance I had on my dream list. Trust me, it is not as sexy as your dream fridge but I promise, if you don’t already have one you are going to want to get one.
1 – It Protects your Home
One of the first things that we purchased when we bought our house was a dehumidifier. If your house has too much humidity after time it can start to do damage to your home. Think rusty metal and wood that starts to bend and bow. A home is probably the biggest investment you are going to make in your entire life, a dehumidifier is an easy way to help care for it.
2 – MOLD
Nothing creeps me out more than thinking of mold growing in my walls, in the very rooms that we live, play and sleep. It is no secret that mold thrives in damp air, a dehumidifier keeps the moisture out of the air and prevents new mold from growing
3 – You have allergies or Asthma
If you have allergies or asthma your suffering could tie into mold or mildew that you have in your home. According to Statistics Canada and The Lung Association, asthma affects approximately 2.4 million Canadians and contributes to $2.4 billion lost in our country’s productivity each year. Some of the symptoms of allergies from mold are sneezing, itchy throat and eyes and asthma attacks. I can’t think of a better reason to get a dehumidifier, can you?
Alright – so you know you need one but there are so many!
LG was nice enough to send me their PuriCare Dehumidifier to give a try and there are lots of reason to love it.
- Set up was super easy. A quick set of the humidity level and it was up and running
- It looks great – a super sleek design (almost as sexy as dream fridge mentioned above)
- The filter is washable – no added costs with having to buy new filters
- It has the ENERGY STAR mark which means not only is it better for the environment it is saving energy which keeps money in my pocket.
- Set the timer and let it get to work
- It has a ‘continuous drain option’ – no need to empty the bucket with this option!
To note – the dehumidifier does create heat so I would not put this in a bedroom, we have found a great home for it in our upstairs hallway 🙂
