Food Can Be Tasty and Healthy with the Tfal Actifry

I am a HUGE fan of pub food.  I'm talkin burgers, chicken fingers, wings and my ultimate FAV is Fish and Chips.  When we lived in the city there was a pub across the street that served the most AH-MAZING fish and chips.  Now that I am back at the gym and becoming more aware of what I eat I thought that I would have to give up all of the yummy fried food that I love so much.

In comes the T-fal Actifry 2 in 1.  When I got it it said that I could have fish and chips with very little or no oil at all.  I was of course totally skeptical but was excited to give it a try.

I had store bought frozen French fries so I just put them in the bottom of the container and without oil!  Crazy right?  Next time I will try with fresh cut potato and then I am to put 1 tablespoon of oil to cook them.

Because this is the 2 in 1 I am able to cook my entire meal in the one machine.  While the fries were cooking I got the fish ready.

I bought some haddock from Costco and cut it into strips.  Some look better than others 😉

I then got my egg wash ready which consisted of 2 eggs and some chopped up garlic.  Once out of the egg wash I covered in my bread crumbs. (bread crumbs, seasoning salt, fresh thyme and Parmesan)

Once the timer went off I placed the fish on top of the fries, closed the lid and let the fish cook.  Halfway through the remaining time I opened the top to flip the fish.

The finished product was totally amazing.  The fries were crispy and so was the breading on the fish.  The fish was cooked perfectly and it was so yummy!  I am so pumped to have a healthy version of my favorite food.  And the best is all 4 of us (yes even the babies) enjoyed the fish.  SCORE!

The Actifry came with a recipe book and I am excited to give more recipes a try!

I’ll admit I’ve been on the fence about the actifry. My understanding is that’s it’s just a mini convection oven and well I already have a full size convection oven… But people who use it do seem to love it. I can see it being a benefit in the summer – not having to heat up the house with the oven.

I totally love how crispy everything was without all the oil! And not having to use the oven is also a bonus! 🙂

What a great product! I saw them testing one out in Walmart a few weeks back and I can’t believe how little oil it uses. Home frying machines are my best friend, because I can make breaded gluten free recipes!

Jenn – it really is awesome and I never thought about diatery issues.  You bring up a great point.

It looks like it turned out very well – is it big enough to hold all the food for your family of 4? That is something I always wondered about.

I have seen the Actifry around and I have been wondering if it delivers. Thanks so much for your review, I may just need to give it a try.

I have been looking at these, I really like how it crisps up homemade fries. My friend has one and swears by it.

I’ve heard they are great but I’ve never tried it myself. I’d love to see what it tastes like with so little oil
