Leaving Home For 5 Days!

Away1

So last week I went to the BlogHer conference (more on that in another post) for 5 days.  This is the longest that I had ever been away from the kiddos.  I had lots of feelings about it but I certainly wasn't worried.  Shaun is a super hands on dad and he was actually excited about having some alone time with the littles.

So I made a couple meals, wrote out a sleep and eat schedule, stocked the first aid kit and hit the road.  As you can see my mornings started with Skype calls which were totally hilarious.  I saw more of Shane's eyes than anything and Aria kept trying to hang up on me.  This gave us all a chance to say our hello's and I love you's before we started the day.

Other than missing Shaun and the kids like crazy I really didn't have any concerns.  I knew that there was food in the freezer, lots of clean clothes and all of our Boiron products were stocked up!  Things can come up quickly with the kiddos and you always need to be prepared!  Right now there are 3 major things that we seem to be dealing with in our house.

The first is mosquito bites.  When we lived in the city it just wasn't something that we had to deal with but now that we have grass the bugs come out at night!  I make sure to have Dapis Gel handy and put it on the second anyone gets a bite.  It is paraben free, non-greasy and safe for the whole family.

For any moms and dads out there I am sure that you have dealt with teething in one way or another. Our little Aria is starting to get some molars in and it is giving her some discomfort.  Teething can be just a tough on parents because it is just so hard to see their little ones in pain.  That is why we always have Camilia in stock.  They come individual packages, are taste free and give relief to teething babes.

Last and certainly not least is Stodal for kids.  Since Shane has been in daycare we find that he is getting sick more often than before.  Whenever we notice the signs of a cough or cold we get started with Stodal right away.  They love the taste, it is safe for little ones and works wonders.

When I got home everyone was in one piece and Shaun even got a couple loads of laundry. There really wasn't anything to worry about.  Lots of snuggles later we are back to our regular routine!

What do you keep stocked in your house at all times, just in case?

I always keep tylenol and motrin stocked in case we need it for our 3 year old. I’ve never left him (yet), but will be soon. I hope I come home to them all being in piece also 🙂

When my son was teething, I used a lot of holistic remedies to bring him relief. It seemed to alleviate his discomfort quite a bit.

I never heard of any of those products – where have I been? – but could definitely have used all of them when my kids were little!

I’ve never heard of that brand. I try to have a little of everything stocked, from allergy meds to cold meds. We rarely use them, but I like having them on hand. I’ll check into Boiron.

I’ve left my kids before, but my kids are older (7 & 10), so I think it gets easier as they get older.

I like that it’s got a pleasant taste. My son gets so turned off to medicine because he remembers a bad flavor he had once (and that was a long time ago).

I keep gauze and medical tape stocked in my house along with Tylenol and motrin. Otherwise, our medicine cabinet is pretty small.

Aww being away for 5 days must of been hard but the Skype sessions I am sure helped.

When my guys were teething I tried to go as natural as I could. My fav thing was Amber Teething Necklaces:)

I keep fever reducers and benadryl. There is always some crazy illness or reaction going on.

We always keep vitamins in stock because of the medicine that my youngest has to take we have to double up on her vitamins to offset the side effects.

Sounds like your hubby was right on the ball. Sometimes you need some time for yourself away from the kids as well. Glad you enjoyed BlogHer.
