How to Save for Family Vacation

Although vacations are supposed to be an opportunity to relax, it can be difficult to unwind if you are constantly worrying about how you are going to pay for it all.

With summer around the corner and cruises, road trips and vacations on your mind, now is as good a time as any to start saving up for your dream vacation. With a pinch of creativity and a little dedication, there are ways to put some money away and get yourself ready to hit the beach without going into a deep debt to accomplish your travel dreams.

Open a Travel Account

A great and easy way to start saving for your family vacation is to open a bank account dedicated to the cause. It may be a good idea to choose an account that can gain interest so that your money can grow while you save. Another fantastic way to make sure that you are putting money away is to set up automatic payments to the account and have restraint while you allow it to accumulate.

Cut Your Food Budget

Let’s face it, for many households, especially those with teenagers or littles ones, food can be a hefty expense each month. Take some steps to save on your monthly grocery bill and put that savings into the travel account.

Ways to cut back on your grocery bill:

  • Shop local Farmer’s Markets
  • Buy in bulk
  • Start a garden
  • Clip coupons
  • Use reward cards with points
  • Cut out extras like treats and pop

If you find yourself eating out or ordering in a lot, it is time to temporarily put a stop to that as it can get expensive. Make your own lunches to take to work and brew your own coffee at home and put it in a travel mug. Cutting back on your grocery and food bills, is a great way to start saving for vacation.

Have a Garage Sale (or use online buy & sell groups/apps)

Round up all the gently used items that you don’t really need and have a garage sale. Many people have lots of stuff laying around that they rarely use and instead of collecting money, it’s collecting dust. Turn your old belongings into some savings for your family travel dreams.

Work out at Home

Save money on the cost of a gym membership and work out at home. There are many different cheap and even free workouts, that you can participate in from the privacy of your own home. Take the money you’ve saved on your memberships and put it away in your travel account. If working out at home isn’t for you, there are also ways to find discounts on a gym membership, just do some research.

Saving up for your family vacation isn’t going to be easy, but there are so many ways that you can achieve your goal. Having your trip already paid for before you take it can give you peace of mind, and ease the stress of returning from your travels.
